Symptoms

When you try to edit an equation that was inserted using Equation Editor 3.0 in an Office application (such as Word), you see the following error:

Aug 14, 2017  Hlo everyone, I have facing one issue with Microsoft equation 3.0 in word 2013. I am using Toshiba laptop with docking station. As long as i connected to docking station i can able to work in Microsoft equation 3.0 in word 2013 with out any issue. When i remove my laptop from docking station i'm not able to work in MS equation 3.0 and the application is not responding. I have tried repair.   • Select 'Microsoft Equation 3.0' from the 'Object type' list. One may now enter equations the good, old-fashioned way with the equation editor from years ago. It has a working alignment facility.
  • In Word when i try to use the equation editor my Word crashes and i must reopen it.   • The messages referring to 'Equation 3.0' is shorthand for the 'Microsoft Equation Editor' which was an OLE component. It was a rebranded, cut-down version of Design Science's MathType editor. OLE components are small binary programs that are loaded into an existing process (usually office/'productivity' programs) which then display an inline UI.

Equation Editor 3.0 was a third-party component built by Design Science (https://www.dessci.com) that was included in many versions of Office, but due to security issues with its implementation has been removed. Office now includes a newer equation editor.
